Hari  ini, Prof Dr Ravik Karsidi, Rektor UNS, melakukan perjalanan dari Jogya ke Jakarta naik pesawat.*

 

Karena keberangkatan  pesawat ditunda 1 jam beliau menunggu di salah satu lounge bandara YIA dgn sekedar minum kopi.

 

Di depannya duduk seorang ibu sudah agak tua, memakai pakaian Jawa tradisional kain batik dan kebaya, wajahnya tampak tenang dan keibuan.

 

Sekedar mengisi waktu, diajaknya ibu itu bercakap.

 

"mau pergi ke Jkt, bu ?"

 

"Iya nak, hanya transit di cengkareng terus ke Singapura."

 

"Kalau boleh bertanya, ada keperluan apa ibu pergi ke Singapura ?"

 

"Menengok anak saya yang nomor dua nak, istrinya melahirkan di sana terus saya diberi tiket dan diuruskan paspor melalui biro perjalanan. Jadi saya tinggal berangkat tanpa susah mengurus apa2."

 

"Puteranya kerja di mana, bu ?"

 

"Anak saya ini insinyur perminyakan, kerja di perusahaan minyak asing, sekarang jadi kepala kantor cabang Singapura."

 

"Berapa anak ibu semuanya?"

 

"Anak saya ada 4 nak, 3 laki, 1 perempuan. Yang ini tadi anak nomer 2. Yang nomer 3 juga laki, dosen fakultas ekonomi UGM, sekarang lagi ambil program doktor di  Amerika. Yang bungsu perempuan jadi dokter spesialis anak. Suaminya juga dokter, ahli bedah dan dosen di universitas Airlangga Surabaya."

 

"Kalau anak sulung ?"

 

"Dia petani, Nak, Tinggal di Godean, menggarap sawah warisan almarhum bapaknya."

 

Sang Profesor tertegun sejenak lalu dengan hati2 bertanya:

 

"Tentunya ibu kecewa kepada anak sulung ya bu, Kok tidak sarjana spt adik2nya."

 

"Sama sekali tidak, nak. Malahan kami sekeluarga semuanya hormat kepada dia, karena dari hasil sawahnya dia membiayai hidup kami dan menyekolahkan semua adik2nya sampai selesai jadi sarjana."

 

Kembali sang Profesor merenung :

 

"Ternyata yang penting bukan Apa atau Siapa kita, tetapi apa yang telah kita perbuat.

Allah tidak akan menilai Apa dan Siapa kita tetapi apa yg  Kita  lakukan"

Apa itu Conditional Sentence?

Dalam bahasa Indonesia, conditional sentence berarti kalimat pengandaian. Kalimat ini bisa digunakan untuk mengungkapkan sebab akibat, kemungkinan terjadinya suatu hal, maupun menyatakan pengandaian atas hal yang sebetulnya tidak mungkin terjadi. Ada pula yang mengistilahkan Conditional Sentence dengan If Clause

Terdapat 4 jenis conditional sentence yang masing-masing jenisnya menggunakan bentuk tenses yang berbeda. Akan tetapi, pada dasarnya semua conditional sentence terdiri atas if clause dan main clause. Itulah sebabnya kadang conditional Sentence disebut sebagai If Clause

 

Conditional Sentence Tipe 0

Conditional sentence tipe 0 digunakan untuk menyatakan sebab akibat akan sebuah fakta yang sudah umum diketahui kebenarannya. Jika hal A terjadi, maka akan menyebabkan hal B.

Rumus:

1.      If + simple present tense, simple present tense

2.      Simple present tense + if + simple present tense

Contoh:

1.      If you heat butter, it melts.

2.      The ground gets wet if it rains.

 

Conditional Sentence Tipe 1

Conditional sentence tipe 1 digunakan untuk mengekspresikan suatu hal yang sangat besar kemungkinannya terjadi di waktu yang akan datang jika kita melakukan sesuatu.

Rumus:

1.      If + simple present tense, simple future tense

2.      Simple future tense + if + simple present tense

Contoh:

1.      If you go now, you will arrive there on time.

2.      I will buy a new bike if I pass the exam.

 

Conditional Sentence Tipe 2

Conditional sentence tipe 2 digunakan untuk mengungkapkan sesuatu yang tidak realistis atau sangat kecil kemungkinannya untuk terjadi. Karena itu, tipe ini cocok untuk menyatakan angan-angan kita.

Rumus:

1.      If + simple past, present conditional

2.      Present conditional + if + simple past

Contoh:

1.      If I lived in Seoul, tonight I would go to that concert. (Kenyataannya saya tidak tinggal di Seoul, sehingga saya tidak bisa pergi ke konser itu)

2.      I would play roller coaster every day if I owned a theme park. (Kenyataannya saya tidak memiliki taman bermain sendiri, jadi saya tidak bisa bermain roller coaster setiap hari)

 

Conditional Sentence Tipe 3

Conditional sentence tipe 3 digunakan untuk menyampaikan pengandaian atas kejadian yang sudah terjadi di masa lalu. Karena sudah terjadi dan tidak bisa diubah lagi kenyataannya, kita hanya bisa mengungkapkan pengandaian apa yang akan terjadi jika kejadian tersebut berjalan berbeda dari kenyataan.atau faktanya terjadi sebaliknya

Rumus:

1.      If + past perfect, perfect conditional

2.      Perfect conditional + if + past perfect

Contoh:

1.      If I had left my house earlier, I wouldn’t have missed the train. (Kenyataannya saya telat berangkat dari rumah, sehingga saya ketinggalan kereta)

2.      If she had called me yesterday, I would have been happy. (Kenyatannya kemarin dia tidak menelpon, sehingga saya sekarang tidak merasa senang)

Kali ini kita akan mempelajari Passive voice

1.Pengertian

Passive voice merupakan sebuah kalimat yang berkebalikan dengan active voice. Dalam kalimat pasif, subjek yang menerima aksi dan objek yang dimiliki active voice akan menjadi subjeknya. Dengan kata lain, kalimat pasif ini lebih fokus pada objek yang menerima sebuah hasil dari suatu aksi.

 

CONTOH KALIMATNYA

Melalui contoh di atas, dapat dilihat bahwa pada passive voice, objek yang terdapat pada active voice akan menjadi subjek, sedangkan subjeknya menerima sebuah aksi atau tindakan tertentu.

 

Seperti “A letter is written by my friend”, kalimat ini menjelaskan bahwa sebuah surat ditulis oleh temannya. Dapat dilihat dalam kalimat tersebut bahwa “surat” menerima sebuah aksi dari “temanku”, yaitu “ditulis”.

 

2.Rumus Passive Voice

 

Sama seperti kalimat-kalimat lain dalam bahasa Inggris, kalimat pasif juga memiliki rumus yang harus diterapkan. Rumus tersebut tentu berhubungan dengan tenses yang ada dalam bahasa Inggris. Berikut rumus passive voice berdasarkan tenses yang ada.

5.Penggunaan Passive Voice

 

Pemilihan penggunaan antara kalimat aktif maupun pasif tergantung pada keadaan atau situasi. Terdapat kondisi-kondisi dimana kalian akan menggunakan passive voice. Selain itu, penting juga untuk mengetahui siapa pelaku aksi dalam sebuah kalimat.

Pelaku aksi dapat dimasukkan dalam kalimat saat berada dalam beberapa kondisi. Apabila pelaku aksi tersebut penting untuk menjelaskan atau melengkapi sebuah informasi, maka pelaku aksi akan dicantumkan pada kalimat. Contoh kondisi dan pelaku aksi adalah sebagai berikut:

Saat pelaku tindakan merupakan orang terkenal atau diketahui pasti	Suho in True Beauty was played by Cha Eun Woo. Dalam kalimat ini, pelaku tindakan merupakan orang yang telah banyak diketahui (terkenal).
Saat pelaku tindakan tidak diduga (mengejutkan)	I was surprised by the novelist. She’s just 16 years old but could made an amazing story like this.	Pelaku tindakan di sini adalah seorang anak 16 tahun yang telah membuat novel dengan alur cerita yang sangat bagus. Lalu, si “aku” merasa terkejut saat mengetahui bahwa sang penulis (pelaku tindakan) merupakan remaja yang masih berusia 16 tahun.
Saat membutuhkan informasi tambahan	She’s nice to me. She’s been helped me a lot.	Informasi tambahan yang dimaksud merupakan kalimat kedua. Pada contoh di samping, kalimat pertama mengatakan bahwa “dia” merupakan orang yang baik. Kalimat kedua memberikan informasi tambahan mengapa “dia” disebut baik.

 

Seperti yang telah dibahas bahwa penggunaan passive voice dibutuhkan dalam beberapa kondisi. Kondisi-Kondisi yang dimaksud antara lain:

Pelaku tindakan diketahui	The novel is written by Lisa.	Dalam kalimat tersebut, Lisa merupakan seorang novelist dimana ia merupakan orang yang menulis novel. Menulis novel di sini merupakan tindakan, dan Lisa yang melakukan tindakan tersebut.
Pelaku tindakan tidak diketahui	My bike has been lost.	Sepeda yang hilang bisa saja dicuri atau dipindahkan oleh orang lain. Banyak kemungkinan yang menjelaskan mengapa sepeda tersebut hilang. Namun, tidak ada keterangan siapa pelaku tindakan tersebut.
Semua orang merupakan pelaku tindakan	Planes have been used by many people to travel wherever they want.	Subjek pada kalimat di samping adalah pesawat dan dijelaskan bahwa pesawat telah digunakan oleh banyak orang. Sudah sangat jelas, bahwa semua orang (pengguna pesawat) merupakan si pelaku tindakan. Tindakannya adalah, naik pesawat.
Pelaku tindakan dirahasiakan atau tidak ingin diketahui	She is lied to me.	Kalimat tersebut menyatakan bahwa pelaku tindakan merupakan seorang perempuan, namun tidak menunjukkan identitas atau siapa tepatnya perempuan tersebut. Dalam kondisi ini, “aku” mengetahui siapa yang berbohong padanya, namun ia sengaja tidak memberi tahu siapa orang tersebut.
Pelaku tindakan telah disebut di awal	Cia has lied to Ben. He was disappointed	Pada kalimat pertama telah disebutkan bahwa Cia berbohong pada Ben. Tindakan yang dilakukan pada kalimat tersebut adalah “berbohong” dan pelaku tindakan adalah “Cia”. Kalimat selanjutnya menerangkan bahwa Ben kecewa. Kecewa pada siapa? Tentu Cia. Hal ini telah dijelaskan pada kalimat pertama.

 

6 .Penggunaan “Get” dalam Passive Voice

Kata “get” di sini berperan sebagai pengganti to be (am/is/are). Kata ganti to be dengan “get” ini biasa ditemukan atau digunakan dalam percakapan informal. Berikut struktur penggunaan “get” dalam passive voice:

7. Fungsi Passive Voice

 

Penggunaan kalimat pasif dalam bahasa Inggris tentunya memiliki sebuah tujuan atau fungsi seperti kalimat-kalimat lainnya. Lalu, apa fungsinya? Mari simak beberapa fungsi dari kalimat pasif berikut ini.

1.    Melihatkan sebuah ketertarikan atau berfokus kepada sebuah subjek atau objek yang diberi sebuah aksi atau tindakan. Apabila active voice berfokus pada subjek atau objek yang melakukan sebuah aksi atau tindakan, maka hal ini berkebalikan dengan passive voice yang mana subjek atau objeklah yang menerima aksi atau tindakan.

2.    Saat menggunakan passive voice, kalian dapat lebih menekankan siapa atau apa pelaku dari sebuah aksi atau tindakan. Penekanan ini biasa menggunakan “by” yang mengacu pada sang pemberi aksi atau tindakan terhadap subjek atau objek.
