Ever heard of the famous quote, "Be happy that we
create ourselves, not others,"? Indeed, you alone can control your
emotions. However, not everyone is able to regulate the ups and downs of
emotions. Sometimes, the influence of the environment and the people around you
also change your mood to 180 degrees. Now, that has always been the question
until now, is there really no way to live happily despite being present in the
midst of negative people?
The way to live happily even in negative situations
Before blaming others for the mood being destroyed
instantly, it turns out your own brain is involved as one of the triggers. Yes,
the brain is an organ that is very sensitive to all things, from negative to
positive.
Signals captured by the brain will be transmitted to nerve
cells in the body to give certain responses. Whether it's angry, disappointed,
sad, until happy. Therefore, the key to living happily is actually controlling
your emotions and your response to negative things.
But where to start? Here goes the steps!
1. Find out the triggers for negative emotions
Everything that happens must have a cause, including why you
feel surrounded by negative air from the people around you. As a first step,
identify the root cause of the discomfort.
Maybe you feel uncomfortable because you hear a friend who
talks about the ugliness of others in the back, made monthly by a couple who
are ignited emotionally, or office friends who they want.
Trying to find out one by one, slowly but surely will help
you to be aware of any factors that create a negative aura around you.
2. Focus on things that can be controlled
There are many things that you cannot control in this world,
for example the condition of the streets when you go to school, campus, or
office. Trying to control things beyond your control will make it hard for you
to be happy. Therefore, the key is to focus on the things that you can control.
For example, traffic jams are severe, which you can control
is your own reaction. Realize that the traffic jam is out of your control. What
you can do is focus on finding alternative ways or shortcuts or looking for
busyness in a traffic jam like replying to chat or e-mail so that time is not
wasted. In addition to distracting yourself from negative emotions, you can
also be more productive.
3. Generate positive suggestions
When you think about negative things all the time, it might
actually happen. This is because your own thoughts greatly influence your
actions. In other words, for example you are shrouded in nervousness on the
first date.
The reality? Sure enough, you are nervous to death when you
first meet a crush until you often make embarrassing trivial mistakes. That all
is the influence of suggestion. When you believe bad things will come, then
without taking a long time the mind seems to be present in the real world.
Similarly, when you focus on thinking something positive.
On the psychological side, this condition is known as
"perception is projection". Or simply, what is in your perception can
easily manifest in real life.
So as much as possible stay away from bad thoughts and
create good thoughts even though you are trapped in an uncomfortable
environment.
4. Cultivate yourself with good emotions
Happiness is difficult to achieve without being accompanied
by maximum effort. It's useless if you continue to curse yourself for being
upset with the attitude of those around you, but not trying to get rid of the
feeling of "prop it".
Instead of continuing to put on a frown that will actually
make a bad mood, it's better to calm down by doing other activities that can
make you happy. Reading your favorite book, dancing while listening to music in
the room, watching a movie, or doing yoga can be a choice of positive
activities.
When you're done with all of these steps, try to feel the
emotional changes in yourself. Have you felt better than before?
