7. MODELS OF ISLAMIC STUDIES

For a long time the Islamic school par excellence, the madrasa, was considered a relic of the past, ­destined to disappear upon contact with the western world.. Modernity has also meant two new actors coming onto the scene: the state, which has often been in rivalry with the ulema, and the West which has brought with it unprecedented education models. In many cases the traditional Islamic schools have successfully taken up the challenge. Now widespread also in the West and inspired by the principles and above all the practice of tolerance. At the other extreme of the Muslim world ­Indonesia is also on its way to overcoming the dualism between traditional religious education given by the madrasas (locally called pesantren) and modern state education, integrating the former in a high level academic system.

. What conclusions can be drawn from this detailed study? Hefner remarks: ‘If there is a struggle for the hearts and minds of Muslims going on around the world, which there certainly is, madrasas and religious education are on its front line’ (p. 2).

Question words berarti kata tanya sedangkan Yes No Question adalah Pertanyaan dengan jawaban yes atau no.

Question word terdidi dari beberapa kata yang rumusnya 5 W 1 H

Masih ingat kalian ? yakni when, where, what, who, dan why serta How.

Bila ada pertanyaan menggunakan kata kata itu jawabannya tidak boleh yes atau No namun harus dijawab sesuai dengan konteksnya. Misalkan Apa pekerjaan Ayahmu ? (What is your father ? ) maka dijawab misalnya ayah saya adalah seorang petani ( My father is a farmer)

Sedangkan Kalimat tanya yang menggunakan Yes no Question antara lain terdiri dari to be (is am are was were) dan Modal Auxilliary (can-could , will- would, shall- should, may -might- to do did done) jawabannya Yes atau no dan diikuti dengan kata tanyanya. Misalkan apa kamu seorang siswa ? (Are you a student ?)  jawabannya  misalkan ya saya seorang murid (Yes I am) tidak boleh menjawab dengan yes I do ( karena pertanyaannya dengtan to be= are).
